Wat blijft komt nooit terug
Op 6 mei 2006 de dag na bevrijdingsdag en de opening van mijn Solo tentoonstelling in Galerie 21/de Meerminnen liet ik mijn vrouw het middeleeuse centrum van mijn geboortestad Dordrecht zien. Op de Voorstraat kon ik het niet laten Boekhandel deBengel even binnen te gaan. Ik kwam daar vaak als scholier. Goede boeken voor weinig geld en de juiste sfeer voor een puber-Gymnasiast. Het was een prachtige zonnige zaterdag. Er heerste een feestelijke stemming. Vlak na mij betrad de dichter Jan Eijkelboom de boekhandel. Zijn dagelijkse gang om de NRC te halen. Ik wachte hem buiten op en vroeg of ik een foto van hem mocht maken. Ik vertelde dat ik hem in Rotterdam rond 1980 regelmatig in het neon verlichte cafe het Schouwtje had ontmoet met de andere drinkende redactieleden van Het Vrije Volk. Ook citeerde ik een prachtig fragment van van zijn mistgedicht over de Wolwevershaven dat ik uit mijn hoofd kende. Hij werd verlegen en poseerde geduldig met een enigszins droeve vermoeide blik. Onderwijl kreeg op mijn kop van mijn vrouw die zei dat elke amateur weet dat je geen portretten in de volle zon moest maken. Toch wilde ik hem in de volle zon en hij deed vriendelijk gewillig wat ik vroeg. Ik maakte een paar foto´s, hij beloofde mijn expositie te bezoeken en ieder ging zijns weegs. De foto heb ik altijd gekoesterd en krijgt nu zijn plaats als een klein eerbetoon.
Dag Jan, dank je voor je warme zachtmoedige regels. Trots van Dordrecht ..

The theme „Barricades Without Borders- New (Brave) World” opens up the question of dialogue between different generations which participated, each in their own way, in creating a new world while destroying the barricades between their dreams, their goals and the world which surrounds them and in which they live. Every generation is confronted with the same experience: that in front and behind them stand barricades without borders. The creation of a new world means life in a “brave world…
Going to Bosnia and Sarajevo as an invited Artist for the Festival 2008 makes me aware of a deep but hidden feeling of collective guilt about what happened in Srebrenica. The Srebrenica Genocide, was the July 1995 killing of an estimated 8,000 Bosnian boys and men, who were supposed to be fully protected by the Dutch Army and the UN troops. But the International Organisations let the Massacre happen in front of their eyes.
The Srebrenica massacre is the largest mass murder in Europe since World War II. Theodor Meron: By seeking to eliminate a part of the Bosnian Muslims [Bosniaks], the Bosnian Serb forces committed genocide. They targeted for extinction the forty thousand Bosnian Muslims living in Srebrenica, a group which was emblematic of the Bosnian Muslims in general. They stripped all the male Muslim prisoners, military and civilian, elderly and young, of their personal belongings and identification, and deliberately and methodically killed them solely on the basis of their identity.
The Memo´s for Bosnia were daily Ceremonies, Performances, Installations, Meditations and Conversations with the Public about the recent war done at different historical locations in the Public Domain of Sarajevo: The Market, The main Mosque, the Synagogue, the Old Orthodox Church and the Turkish Cultural Center.
This project was part of the Exhibition “Encumbered” by Nine Dragon Heads Artists group, curated by Park Byoung Uk in Turkish Cultural Center, 6-11 February 2008 Sarajevo
I am still working to finish my Sarajevo project.
For me it was quite emotional.
It affected me a lot…

This is a remarkable photo. The ultimate silence of the touching of the water. More than in any other photo time is frozen. The Japanese have this remakable little word ‘ma’ to express the suspension of time. It leads me further on to ponder on the size of the lake, and allows me to think of the lake as being round, circular and encompassing all. Like in the evocative pictures of Van der Heijden. The mirrorlike surface draws my attention to the title. a self-portrait? How is Paul included in this picture?

In maart beslist de minister Plasterk over de herverdeling van kunstsubsidies.
Er is te weinig geld.
De regering wil dat de schaarse middelen naar nog minder kunstenaars gaan.
Velen zullen hun beroep niet meer kunnen uitoefenen.
Steun de actie van het Platform Zonder Kunstenaars Geen Kunst
tegen de voortschrijdende uitholling van beeldende kunstsubsidies!
